How To Of The Day: How To Remove A Fish Hook

Nothing ruins a relaxing of day of fishing like catching yourself on your own fish hook. Here are two methods you can use to carefully remove the hook without causing serious damage.

The key to removing a fish hook, as this guide from The Art of Manliness explains, is minding the barb at the end of the hook. To remove it from your skin, you need to tie some line to the curved shank part of the hook, then apply pressure to the eye part of the hook to reduce the damage the barb will do on its way out. Keep the line taut while you push down on the eye, then quickly jerk on the line to pull the hook out. It will probably hurt still, but it’s the most efficient way to do it. If the hook is really far in there, the “advance and cut” technique has you push the hook the rest of the way through your skin. Once it’s through, you can clip off the barb and pull the hook easily through your skin.

The Eagle Has Landed

This incredible footage shows the moment a huge bird of prey swoops in to pick up a fishy dinner from a boat.

Ashton Philips caught the moment an Eagle swooped onto his fishing boat. He was fishing in British Columbia when the daredevil bird swooped down and grabbed a salmon he’d caught and then flew away.

Joke Of The Day: Fishing Secrets

Joke Of The Day: Fishing Secrets It was a cold winter day. An old fisherman walked out onto a frozen lake, cut a hole in the ice, dropped in his fishing line, and waited patiently for a bite. He was there for almost an hour, without even a nibble, when a young boy walked out onto the ice, cut a hole in the ice next to him.

The young boy dropped his fishing line and minutes later he hooked a Large mouth Bass.

The old fisherman couldn’t believe his eyes but chalked it up to plain luck.

Shortly thereafter, the young boy pulled in another large catch.

The young boy kept catching fish after fish.

Finally, the old fisherman couldn’t take it any longer. “Son” he said, “I’ve been here for over an hour without even a nibble. You’ve been here only a few minutes and have caught a half dozen fish! How do you do it?”

The boy responded, “Roo raf roo reep ra rums rrarm.”

“What was that?” the old fisherman asked.

Again the boy responded, “Roo raf roo reep ra rums rarrm.”

“Look,” said the old fisherman, “I can’t understand a word you’re saying sonny.”

The boy spat the bait into his hand and said… “You have to keep the worms warm!”
