Don’t Trust Washington

This is from a good article by Michael Reagan at Townhall.com.

When my father Ronald Reagan said one of his mottos was “trust but verify,” he was talking about dealing with the Soviet Union. If he was talking about present-day Washington I think he’d simply say, “Don’t trust – ever.”

He’d have good reason. Some of the people running things today would steal the pennies off a dead man’s eyes, and then claim they needed it to make everybody’s life better.

Look at the current furor over the (fortunately) now-dead Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, sold so deceptively it would shock the worst snake-oil salesman.

Speaking of Ronald Reagan, here is a quote of his that has special meaning for today.

“Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.”

New Media beat Old Media on Amnesty Bill

New Media beat Old Media on Bush Amnesty Bill

Conservatives using blogs, e-mail messages, websites, radio talk shows, cable TV, and direct mail were able to rally the American people to beat the Bush Administration and the business establishment.

“If this same fight had been waged even 20 years ago, the big boys probably would have won. Today, ordinary citizens were able to have their voices forcefully heard in Washington, D.C. This was a Harriet Miers-type moment,” he said.

Fred Thompson Credits bloggers, talk radio and the American people for the death of the Amnesty Bill

A Good Day.

Fred gives credit where credit is due.

This has been a good day for America.

For a while, it didn’t look like Washington was going to listen to us regarding real immigration reform. Thankfully, we’ve been spared a serious mistake, but I wonder if things would have turned out the way they did without the work done by the bloggers, talk radio and the American people. Rush, Hannity, Laura Ingraham, RedState, Powerline, Pajamas Media and a lot of others have done a great job. Take that, Fairness Doctrine.

Putin Lays Claim To The North Pole

Putin’s Arctic invasion.

In a dramatic move that provoked an international outcry Vladimir Putin is staking claim to part of the North Pole and all it’s resources.

ThIs whole situation with Putin and Russia should be of serious concern to the West but who will stop him?

Russian President Vladimir Putin is making an astonishing bid to grab a vast chunk of the Arctic – so he can tap its vast potential oil, gas and mineral wealth.

His scientists claim an underwater ridge near the North Pole is really part of Russia’s continental shelf.

One newspaper printed a map of the “new addition”, a triangle five times the size of Britain with twice as much oil as Saudi Arabia.

What Would Teddy Roosevelt Say About Illegall Immigration?

Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
